Ran CCleaner, cleaned everything including Registry, all ok.Checked Device Manager (in Safe mode) for Hardware errors, found 4, disabled all, reboot to normal mode, no improvement.Tried "Non Destructive Repair of Windows" with Media Creation Tool, per this expert:Tried 3 different ways Normal and Clean boot "hangs" on first "System Clean up before Closing", PC is "partially" frozen as described above. Only restore point was when Google removed "Google Backup and Sync".Swapped RAM, tested HDD, ran CHKDSK and SFC /Scannow, NO errors.Ran Malwarebytes AND Avast scans, nothing found. But, that was before the problem started.I should add to the list of things I did was TRY was to install an update, which failed, and now, at boot up it stops briefly at "Getting Windows ready", 35%, Don't turn off your computer", so that's stuck now, but the problems started beforehand (although my perception is that it's worse now).As to Device Manager errors, I'll get it back to Safe Mode and report on that.Also, if you think it worthwhile, I do have a spare PSU I could try, but what do you think about the 20 minutes of HDD activity, any concern there?Edit: Screenshot of Device Manager in safe mode attached. Jpg pic on the desktop, however, just resulted in the pointer with the spinning blue circle.As to overheating, I did have the cover off about 2 weeks ago and vacuumed the CPU heatsink and fan, as well as the case fan and PSU, plus then used comp. Task manager this time would NOT open, yet I was able to Right click on a desktop icon and delete it. Can'T Open File Quickbooks File Open In Another Copy Of Quickbooks Full Functionality BackAnd of course, I can't open a different browser (or any app)I can open "My Computer" and open some contents there, but I can't open Control panel or Task Manager (or other things) from Start button.I can click on Start button, type (for example) MSCONFIG, (and it'll find it), but no result when clicking on it.The list goes on and on-some things work, some don't.Then I had the idea that maybe my "preferred" browser (Flashpeak's Slimjet, Chrome engine) was somehow corrupted and to blame, so I didn't open it and used only MS Edge. Txt file (or anything) on desktop.I browser is open, I can navigate to different web pages from within an OPEN tab, but if I open a NEW tab, the tab appears, but nothing will load in it. Txt file on desktop and delete it, but I can't open an existing. (But strangely took longer to act up)To me, once it acts up, the things that work, and the things that don't, don't seem to make any sense! I can create a folder or new. Let me know if any are there.The problematic Device Manager items are highly unlikely to be a contributing factor, though you will need to address those eventually once the main problem is fixed to get full functionality back.Is this a Brand computer or a generic PC clone? If a brand name, please include the model number in your next post.Do you have a spare GPU you could temporarily try to eliminate that as well? If not, let me know and I'll let you know how the existing one can be tested, though that may be difficult if the freezes happen after 5 minutes of using the PC.If I had to take a guess, then I'm leaning towards the graphics card as being the problem here only because the problem isn't happening in Safe Mode when the computer is operating in low resolution.Edited by achzone, 15 September 2021 - 02:50 AM.Installed a video card (M/B has "onboard" graphics), Initially seemed better, no "partial freezing" for over 20 minutes, but ultimately acted as before. Weatherstar emulator macI'm still inclined to want to eliminate intermittent Hardware problems as well as check background tasks.Question: What's the longest you've been able to use the PC without experiencing a freeze since installing a GPU?1. (I've been been using Excite for 15 years)I know I'm being long winded here, but it all makes no sense! And if I confused you with any of the above, ask me to clarify.Some interesting results there. I wrote them, they said "Nothing new on their end that would cause it. If other tabs were open, no Excite page crash. Let me know if freezes prevent you from running the two tests successfully.Configure the tests as per the graphic below.Please let me know the results of all of the above. Run it twice, immediately starting the second test as soon as the first one completes (if it completes with no error and gives a passing result) so that components don't have time to cool down too much. Note that the trial only allows for 15 minutes of continuous testing. This will place load on the computer to try and force and identify a hardware fault.
